Why would I have a breast lift?

A breast lift restores a youthful shape and position to sagging, deflated breasts that occurs with aging, pregnancy, weight changes, and gravity. A breast lift will reshape and reposition your sagging breasts to an uplifted position with shapely form and contour. Both your self confidence and appearance can be improved. Since some patients have also had a loss of breast volume, if desired breast implants may be inserted in conjunction with a lift to recreate a fuller appearance.

What can you tell me about the surgical procedure?

The procedure tightens the breast tissue and removes some of the stretched skin to create an uplifted, perky, and shapely form. In addition, if your areola is stretched (dark skin surrounding the nipple) it can be designed to be proportional to the contoured breast and elevated to a more desirable position. The location and length of the incision will vary depending on the amount of lift required. Dr. Awada will make every effort to limit the length of the scar and place it in the most inconspicuous location as best as possible. Fortunately, the incisions can be easily covered by your bra or bathing suit. View breast lift photos.

What are the surgical descriptions?

The length of the procedure will vary from 2-4 hours depending on the amount of lift required. It is performed under anesthesia in our accredited surgery facility or in the hospital as a day surgery (an overnight stay is rarely required).

What should I anticipate about the recovery?

Expect to have mild discomfort that improves after a few days and is well controlled with oral medication. The breasts may have temporary swelling and bruising. Most patients are able to return to work and drive after 5-7 days. If your job requires lifting you may experience more pain and have a longer delay back to work. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise is not recommended for 3 weeks.

What other tips do I need to know about?

If you are planning to have children, you should consider postponing your breast lift. Although there are not special risks that affect future pregnancies (for example, mastopexy usually does not interfere with the ability to breast feed), pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts again and offset the results of the procedure.
