When it comes to the world of cosmetic surgery, there are a lot of procedures and treatments that can be used to address a variety of aesthetic concerns you may have. One of the most difficult things is figuring out which procedure can properly address your concerns?
One of the most common areas of the body that people struggle with is the stomach. There are multiple issues that can ruin the appearance of your stomach like stubborn pockets of excess fat, loose, skin, and loose abdominal muscles. Some of the most popular treatment options for enhancing the appearance of the stomach are liposuction and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). So, which one is the right choice for you?
Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical body-contouring procedure that is able to give the stomach a flatter and more toned appearance by targeting and removing pockets of excess abdominal fat. The procedure involves using a long hollow tube called a cannula. The cannula is inserted underneath the abdominal skin through several small incisions. A tumescent fluid is then injected into the area.
During the process, the cannula is maneuvered and manipulated to loosen the excess fat from the abdominal tissue. Once the desired amount of fat is removed, the loosened fat and fluid are then sucked through the cannula. Typically, only a single liposuction treatment is needed to provide the desired results.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that is performed to address issues like excess loose abdominal skin and loose abdominal muscles. The procedure involves making an incision from hip to hip. If needed, the underlying abdominal muscles can be tightened to give the stomach a flatter and tighter appearance.
During the procedure, the excess loose skin along the abdomen will be surgically excised. The remaining abdominal skin will be tightly pulled over the abdominal muscles to give the stomach a flatter, tighter, and more toned overall appearance. The incision will then be tightly sutured shut.
Which One Is Right for Me?
There are several important factors that need to be considered when deciding if liposuction or abdominoplasty is right for you. One of the most important factors is loose skin. If you have a large amount of loose saggy skin around your abdomen, a tummy tuck will not be able to provide you with the results you are looking for. Liposuction does not tighten or remove loose skin from the abdomen. In these cases, a tummy tuck will be the ideal choice. The same is true if you have loose abdominal muscles which can only be addressed through a tummy tuck.
If your main issue is the presence of excess fat but your abdominal skin is still tight and relatively smooth, liposuction alone may be enough. In addition to this, liposuction may also be performed as a part of the tummy tuck procedure in order to both eliminate excess fat and tighten the abdominal area.
