Brazilian Butt Lift

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

At Michigan Cosmetic Surgery, we meet many patients who are dissatisfied with the size or shape of their buttocks. A smaller buttock area can throw off your entire figure, resulting in disproportion or asymmetry. One way to achieve full, shapely buttocks is through a procedure known as the Brazilian butt lift. Dr. Mariam Awada is happy to offer BBL surgery to patients throughout Michigan.

In a Brazilian butt lift, unwanted fat is removed from the abdomen, flanks, or back through a process known as liposuction. This fat is then transferred to the buttock area, where it is manipulated to provide real fullness and definition. The end goal is an overall physical appearance that is natural and beautiful.

How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?

The Brazilian butt lift process always begins with a consultation. We invite you to meet our all-female team, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mariam Awada. She will carefully listen to your aesthetic goals and concerns, and suggest treatment options aligned with your needs.

The specifics of the procedure can vary from patient to patient, depending on how much fullness we need to add and where we are harvesting the fat. Most often, we recommend the 360 lipo treatment, which collects fatty tissue from the abdomen, flanks, back, and axilla.

Once harvested and processed, the fat is injected into the buttocks. Using her artistic eye, Dr. Mariam Awada carefully shapes the tissue to achieve a well-sculpted buttock. The incision sites are stitched up, and your new buttocks will settle into their final positioning as you recover.

Am I a Good Candidate for the Brazilian Butt Lift?

When you meet with Dr. Mariam Awada for a consultation, she will evaluate your medical history to verify that you are a good candidate for a safe, successful procedure. Generally speaking, the best candidates for a Brazilian butt lift:

  • Have stable body weights but wish to add some fullness to their rear end
  • Have sufficient fat that can be harvested and used for the transfer
  • Are in good health overall, and do not have any conditions that would prevent healing
  • Have talked with a qualified plastic surgeon and have realistic expectations about the procedure

The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Process Explained

Where Will the Fat for My Butt Lift Come From?

One of the prerequisites for getting a Brazilian butt lift is that you have enough body fat that can be collected through liposuction and transferred to your buttocks. There are a number of sites on the body where we can look for excess fat, but most commonly, we look to the back, flanks, and abdomen.

How is the Fat Extracted?

We typically remove fat through a treatment known as liposuction, which vacuums fatty tissue out of your body. Liposuction is a very common plastic surgery procedure, and in fact, it provides Brazilian butt lift patients with an extra advantage. Not only will the butt lift produce full, shapely buttocks, but the liposuction will create a body contouring effect, removing unwanted flab from select areas. The goal is for the patient’s post-op results to resemble the striking signature hourglass figure that so many of our patients crave.

What Will My Surgery Day Be Like?

It is natural to feel a little hesitation as the big day approaches; getting any kind of surgical intervention can be intimidating. We want our patients to rest assured that comfort and safety are our top priorities, and that we go to great lengths to make certain you feel welcome and relaxed throughout your procedure day.

This begins with a warm greeting and compassionate care from our all-female team. We will be ready to answer any last-minute questions, furnish detailed aftercare instructions, and help you feel relaxed. Dr. Mariam Awada will also spend some time with you before the surgery to offer any last-minute encouragement you need.

The procedure is performed in our in-house surgical suite, which our patients find to be very convenient and private. We also utilize a range of anesthesia options so that you do not feel any pain or discomfort during your procedure. The duration of your surgery depends on various factors, including the number of liposuction sites required, but you can expect your surgery to last somewhere between three and four hours. Assuming there are no unforeseen complications, you will be able to return home shortly thereafter.

What is the Recovery Like?

Following your procedure, you can expect bruising and swelling in the areas where the fat was harvested. You may also experience some tenderness for the first few days, which can be managed with medications. Dr. Awada and her team will provide special compression garments to wear over the places where the liposuction was performed. You will also be advised to avoid sitting or lying directly on your butt for six to eight weeks. Following the eight-week mark, you should be able to proceed to regular day-to-day activity.

How Long Do the Results Last?

One thing to know about the butt lift is that not all of the fat that is transferred will survive; because of this, we will generally cultivate a bit more fat than is really needed. Your buttocks will then “shrink” to the desired proportion, which can take up to eight weeks. Usually, 60 to 75 percent of the transferred fat will survive long-term.
